A Message from the leader of The Devizes Guardians - Mr Jonathan Hunter.

It is an honour to serve as leader of Devizes Guardians.

Devizes is an amazing town with a kind, caring and compassionate community - a town that we’ve been proud to call our home for 20 years.

Devizes Guardians are firmly rooted in the local community and like all residents we want to ensure that Devizes remains a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

Our members and local Devizes Guardian councillors are very active in the local community with all members sharing the same ambition, which is supporting our fantastic town and local community.

Our aspirations are to help Devizes build on its rich historic heritage, ensuring that as the majority party within Devizes Town Council we work hard to encourage local ethical employment and support local independent businesses. 

We are focused on promoting a greener town, with cleaner air, carefully thought-out planting schemes and sustainable solutions that protect and promote our environment.

Devizes Guardians will engage with local community groups and Wiltshire Council to help develop improved transport solutions to improve air quality, reduce plastic waste and promote a clean town centre.

We will also work to ensure that Devizes gets it fair share of County resources, campaigning to ensure that Wiltshire Council improves the local road and pavement infrastructure. 

Devizes Guardians will always put local residents first and our town before county, working hard to influence Wiltshire Council ensuring that the local infrastructure is fit for purpose and is able to properly serve our community.

Devizes Guardians will remain focused on community led and affordable housing and will ensure that we are always campaigning for the right housing developments in the right locations giving better access, affordability with sustainable infrastructure.

These are just some of our objectives, please read on to learn about our other ambitions, in short, we are your local independent political party and the majority party within Devizes Town Council, a team that is completely focused on listening to the community and delivering for Devizes.

I believe there is plenty to gain by working closely with Wiltshire Council to influence and therefore ensure Devizes gets the road and pavement investment it fully deserves, looking after motorists and encouraging more cycle users.

My focus will be to ensure that the Town Council has a clear and coherent voice and is completely relentless in getting the very best out of the county’s resources for Devizes.

As an individual I am energetic, have a positive can-do approach and value the importance of listening. My whole career has been spent in leadership so I know the importance of engagement and teamwork.
