The Devizes Guardians Members

Cllr. Chris Gay

Chris’s family are deeply rooted in Devizes. Previously a Secondary school teacher Chris believes strongly that the Council should do more than just provide services but improve the lives and happiness of its residents. She is a supporter of our High Street traders, improving our town’s natural environment and digital communications.

Cllr. Jonathan Hunter

I want to help Devizes build on its historic heritage and ensure that the Town Council works hard to encourage local ethical employment by supporting local businesses, create a vibrant post pandemic town centre, promote a greener town with carefully thought out and costed planting schemes. I would work to ensure that the Council engages with other local groups to develop transport solutions to improve air quality. I will also ensure that the Council delivers excellent value for money.

Cllr. Andy Geddes

Following a career in the civil servant in Human Resources with HMRC Andy has lived with his family in Devizes for over 40 years. He believes it is vital the council keeps up a close communication with residents, listening to concerns and acting on them. He campaigns for Community Led Housing and is a strong believer in keeping Politics local. 

Vanessa Tanner

Previously an English Teacher, Vanessa is married with 2 grown up children. She works in the care sector and is a secretary for a national environmental charity. She is keen to create a Sustainable and Green Devizes with Community Led Housing.

Cllr. Chris Greenwood

Chris and his family moved to Devizes 40 years ago. He worked in Agricultural Technology and then for 20 years ran a successful Devizes based computer company serving national and international companies. A founder member of Devizes Guardians, Chris has a passion for the history and traditions of Devizes and the continual development of its Market and High Street.

Cllr. Jennie Britten

A Roundway resident with her husband, son and daughter, Jennie is a Human Resources Manager. A keen supporter of keeping local High Streets alive, the creation of more local jobs and making our town vibrant with markets and events.

Cllr. Judy Rose

A previous Mayor, Judy has been a Devizes resident for over 35 years. Previously a Primary School Teacher, Toy retailer in Devizes and a Victim Support worker, Judy believes that Devizes needs better Healthcare provision, Community Led Housing and a listening Council.

Cllr. Peter Corbett

Peter and his family have lived in Devizes for 40 years. Having worked in international retail and manufacturing he is a qualified Financial and Project Manager. Currently a Commercial and Operations Manager for a key medical supplier to the NHS. Peter wants Devizes to be Sustainable, Environmentally Friendly and have more jobs.

Cllr. Richard Ormerod

Richard has worked for many years in Town Planning and is a Chartered Town Planner. A major contributor to the Town’s Neighbourhood plan he is also an active member of the Trust for Devizes. Having lived in Devizes for 40 years he values the town’s historic fabric, lively centre and cultural scene. He campaigns for better air quality and bus services 

Cllr. Roger Giraud-Sanders

Roger joined the Royal Navy at fifteen, serving as a Marine Engineer. He then became a Research Technician for Esso and is now an Oil Technical Advisor. A previous Mayor, Roger believes we have an environmental responsibility to future generations and is a supporter of the Trust for Devizes

Cllr. Sarah Bridewell

Sarah has lived in Devizes for most of her life and works in a local Building Society. Married to Mike, an RAF Engineer she understands the pressures of military family life. She has two sons and has a keen interest in education and welfare provision, the regeneration of the Assize Courts and the Devizes Parkway Project.

Cllr. Ted East

An Engineer and Senior Utility Manager. Ted has chaired several Trustee and Charity boards. He is a strong believer that Devizes should be represented by locally focused parties and not driven by national politics or career politicians.

Cllr. Jeanette Von Berg

An ex-Army wife Jeanette came to Devizes over 40 years ago. She fund raises for several local charities and has a keen interest in the provision of low cost housing, ensuring we have a vibrant market and keeping our high street alive.

Paul Tweedle

I consider myself most fortunate to live with my family in Devizes, enjoying its amenities, history, rural beauty, architecture, and vibrant social life, but particularly because of its residents. As part of the Guardians I will play a strong practical role in ensuring that Devizes loses nothing of its character but develops only in the best interests of its people
